Another great installment of Samantha Whiskey’s Reaper series.I love Connell! He’s the Reaper’s resident prankster who lives for the moment and looks to enjoy every second life on and off the ice. His happy go lucky, joker persona allows him to keep his interactions with everyone surface level. Annabelle’s the beautiful but straight laced City Planner of Sweet Water. She lives an orderly life in the shadow of her older sister and has been hurt by her ex while trying out a long distance relationship. She doesn’t believe that Connell could love her as she is and that his attention span will last if she gives her heart to him.The two are thrown together for 6-weeks as Connell is sentenced to community service due to his unfortunate run in with Sweet Water’s Oliver the Ostrich statue. They spend this time bickering, joking, and really getting to know one another. I love how Connell listens to Annabelle’s hopes and dreams and then goes out of his way to make those dreams a reality, doing so in his usual fun-loving way. Annabelle, fights her attraction to the fun loving Scotsman every step of the way. Slowly through every kind gesture, she opens herself up to the possibilities and they fall in love. Their relationship isn’t without struggles and misunderstandings. Connell’s sarcastic response in an interview tears them apart. With help from their friends, they grow as individuals and are able to put it all behind them. I loved how both characters grew throughout the book and the best part of the book in my humble opinion was the ending.I received an ARC of the book for my honest review. I’ve really enjoyed, Samantha Whiskey’s Hockey series, starting with the sharks, and moving to the reapers. This book had me curious having been raised with pranksters on both my parents sides of the family, how a prankster would come off as the leading romantic interest. However while this was a really good story, I kind of felt like the psychology behind the pranks wasn’t fully cemented, and kind of felt like there was a surprising lack of pranks throughout he story, and then kind of a oh yeah... this, & this...and this happened. I would of liked to have seen some thought process, or disruption of a prank thought, within the story. Where as they seem to be a back story and then you get hit with a snowball of accumulated prank stories at the end... I would of liked to of seen a more balanced scale between the psychology of the relationship, and the psychology that goes into pranking a person, which seems to be two of the cornerstones that supports who the hero is. For example plot point A plus plot point B= spectacular prank C. Also on a side note I have the rest of the series in book form, and didn’t see that option for this book!
